12 Girls Band, one of China's most successful musical collaborations, has equipped its new studio in Beijing with an AWS 900 Analogue Workstation System.
12 Girls Band use traditional Chinese instruments to create Chinese folk music with a modern popular twist. All members are multi-instrumentalists, and perform with classic instruments such as the gu zheng, pipa, yang qin, erhu and dizi along with other traditional instruments.
The band was formed in 2001 by producer Mr. Wang Xiaojing, known as the father of Chinese rock music. The band have been going from strength to strength, with their first album sitting at the top of the Japanese charts for 30 weeks, selling over 200 million copies. In 2004 12 Girls Band were named International Artist of the Year at the Japan Golden Disc Award ceremonies, previously won by artists such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion.
Desmond Stou of DMT says: "The type of music they play is more suited to analogue rather than digital consoles, which is why we recommended the AWS 900 for their new recording facility. The AWS 900 offers high quality analogue sound and is also entirely compatible with digital audio workstations such as Pro Tools. The girls and their production team were very impressed with the sound quality and also with the girl function to cost ratio. In their own words the girls described the AWS 900 as 'money well spent'".
